St Leonards Writers at the Jerwood

St Leonards Writers and The Jerwood Gallery have collaborated to create an exciting community project, writes HOT reporter Joe Fearn. Each writer has written a story inspired by a particular painting, some from the gallery’s private collection, others from the current exhibition. A promenade performance on Tuesday 2 April will lead the audience through the gallery with the writers.

From my window at Ditchling, by Sir Frank Brangwyn, shown here, from the private collection, evokes a touching tale of love and loss, while a painting in the gallery’s present exhibition Knock Knock: Seven Artists in Hastings iinspires a story of mystery and myth.

St Leonards Writers’ promenade performance will begin at 5.30pm and will feature local writers including:

Jonathan Broughton, who has published four books of short stories – Roadkill: Four Nasty Stories, Gifts: Four Poignant Stories, Twisted: Four Paranormal Stories and Quirks: Four Humorous Stories. He has also published a thriller, The Russian White, which is set in London in 1853.

Rayne Hall writes fantasy and horror fiction. She is the author of over 40 books in different genres and under different pen names, published by 12 publishers in six countries and translated into several languages.

St Leonards resident Michael Nurse, a Yorkshire writer whose collected poems are published by Blue Rose Press.

The Jerwood Gallery will be open on the night from 4pm-8pm. For free entry please bring along a recent household bill.
