Heritage Open Day events at The SPACE this September

Dystopia by Berlin-based artist Matthias Roth is the current project for Artist Billboard 2 – AB2 can be seen at The SPACE in St Johns Road, St Leonards-on-Sea TN37 6HP. It is visible daily from dawn until dusk. The Garden, an on-going intervention by ‘Guerrilla Gardener’ can be seen adjacent to the SPACE. Christine Gist tells us more about the project.

Dystopia references a recent event in Bohemian Switzerland close to the Czech border in an area where huge wildfires destroyed forests which are suffering from dry weather conditions and an infestation of bark beetles.

The Garden is the result of the ‘Guerrilla Gardener’ clearing the abandoned site next to The SPACE and also the overgrown vegetation at this site. Through these actions the perception of St Johns Road has radically changed. Both The Garden and The SPACE are now interconnected and have become a zone of art and nature.

Both interventions are included in Heritage Open Days / Creativity Unwrapped running between 8 and 17 September. Weather permitting The SPACE will be open:
Wednesday 13 September, 13.00-16.00,
Thursday 14 September, 13.00-16.00,
Friday 15 September, 15.00-17.00,
Saturday 16 September, 14.00-16.00,
Sunday 17 September, 14.00-17.00.

On Saturday 16 September, artist Matthias Roth will give a short performance and talk about Dystopia and his other projects. This will be a free event with refreshments.

Artist Billboard 2 / AB2 has been realised with the support of The Hastings and St Leonards Foreshore Charitable Trust through The SPACE’s partnership with Tempo Arts Ltd.
