Calling printmakers!
Hastings and St Leonards on Sea is home to a number of skilled print-makers – and here’s an opportunity you might be interested in – to exhibit at the gallery, Southbank Printmakers Association, a cooperative on Gabriels Wharf in London SE1.
The gallery is for professional printmakers, who use all traditional printmaking methods, eg etching, dry point, collographs, screen print, etc. NB: There are no ‘digital reproductions’ in this gallery.
Local printmaker, Fiona Pienkowska, has been part of the Southbank Printmakers’ Cooperative since 2004. Now there are 42 members who run things on a day to day basis.
“Sales are good”, says Fiona, “as there is good footfall in this area. There may also be an opportunity over the next year to join as a member, if any serious printmakers out there are interested. The membership used to be restricted to the London area, however since members like myself have moved away from London, it is now acceptable to live within commuter distance.
“However, when considering applying (selection is by portfolio), please note that membership requires commitment and is an active role, which requires all members to invigilate the gallery on a monthly basis, as well as other individual duties and attending meetings.
“We also arrange outside exhibition such as the one this November, at ‘The Lightbox Gallery’ in Woking.
“40% commission of all the prints and artist cards sold go towards gallery running costs and there is a membership fee”. (See below for more details.)
There’re no deadlines as such, as there will be similar opportunities for
exhibiting or joining the gallery in the future.
