Naturist rambling
Unique opportunity to take part in a charity walk with a difference!
On Saturday 3 June, from 10am, a walk in aid of the homelessness charity SHELTER will take place in East Sussex from the start of the Cuckoo Trail in Station Road, Heathfield, covering the eight miles to Hailsham, on a delightful rural and leafy route. Keith Hillier-Palmer, organiser with East Sussex Naturists writes.
But there is one very big difference. A number of participants will be walking this route naked. The walk is being advertised as ‘clothes-optional’, meaning that those taking part may wear clothes if they wish and without any pressure to disrobe.
Aware that there are many naturists in Hastings and St Leonards, we wanted to spread the word here as well, via Hastings Online Times, who have supported our events in the past.
Indeed, as organiser from East Sussex Naturists, I am hoping for a good mix of naturist (nude) and clothed people. I am keen on bringing to an end the myths about going naked by helping the two communities to integrate… and remember there is in our country no law to say that you can’t be naked in public. Indeed, naked rambling is an innocent outdoor activity that is really taking off following the years of Covid restrictions.

Moreover, by walking naked you may feel vulnerable, but then think of the vulnerability of those who have no or an inadequate place in which to live, and possibly even facing cold and wet nights on the streets.
This event has been cleared by both the local district council and by Sussex Police. To ensure that funds go directly to SHELTER, walkers are being asked to purchase in advance a £10 ticket to take part. To add to the funds, we will collect donations as we walk on what is quite a popular cycling and walking route, as well as in Hailsham when we arrive for a picnic lunch on the Common Pond.
The photos shown are mainly of the men walking. Women are very welcome too, it’s just that they are a little less willing to be photographed. It’s amazing the feeling of walking with no clothes on and being truly in touch with nature.
As I say, no need to undress to walk this route and if you wish, just turn up on the day with your £10 donation to SHELTER. If you don’t think you can manage eight miles, you can join at Horam en route and reduce the walk by three miles or just come to Hailsham Pond in Station Road and join us for lunch. If you can’t make that day but are keen to help SHELTER, think about making a donation on my Just Giving Page.

I look forward to seeing people from all over East Sussex including from the Hastings direction on 3 June!

All the money raised whether through entrance tickets, (apart from a very small percentage required by Eventbrite as an admin cost),
sponsorship of friends and family by participants (all of it) and cash collected in Shelter buckets (all of it) during the walk itself will go direct to SHELTER.
As for location, The Cuckoo Trail is a convenient easy route to follow, is dry and without hills, is sufficiently long to satisfy keen walkers, although people can join at intermediate places such as Horam to reduce the distance.A summer date is important as the weather is (usually) more amenable.

What is the purpose of the walk taking place in East Sussex on June 3rd and how does it support the homelessness charity SHELTER?
