Pride of place for King Charles III composite portrait
Whilst nextdoor.co.uk neighbours are raging about the lack of coronation bunting in Hastings Old Town, members of Fairlight Arts Club have marked the ascendance of our new monarch with a composite portrait. Erica Smith spoke to Carol Ardley about the portrait which will have prime position in the club’s upcoming exhibition in Fairlight Village Hall.
The Fairlight Arts Club is one of the longest established art groups in the region. It began as a sub-group of Fairlight Women’s Institute and in the 1980s it sought independence and opened its doors to artists of all genders.
Exhibition organiser Carol Ardley said: “One of the key events in the club’s calendar is the annual two day exhibition. This year the main attraction will be a giant painting of the king, constructed from individual squares painted by our artist members.”
The free exhibition will be held in Fairlight Village Hall on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May.
On Saturday night from 6–9pm there is a wine and cheese evening with a grand charity raffle in aid of Pett Level Inshore Rescue Boat. This is a ticketed event – advance tickeets cosst £5 from Fairlight Post Office or reserve your tickets by calling 01424 814178. Tickets on the door will be £6.
The exhibition is open from 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday 21 May and refreshments will be served all day.
