Earth Day 2023
Earth Day 2023
We live by the sea and protecting it is important, writes Green Cllr Amanda Jobson, who took up the challenge with Surfers Against Sewage last year, to become a Plastic Champion, making monthly litter picks on the beach and working to lessen our use of single-use plastic.
Our Earth Day celebration & Beach Clean will gather at Seaside Road car park, TN38 on Saturday 22 April, 2.30pm. Our walk on the beach will end at Azur Marina.
At present we are all consuming too much plastic. We know changes must come from the top, central government and the supermarkets. But the transition is slow; though there is a Plastic Treaty, this is still in its infancy and you know everything connecting to our environment needs to be acted upon NOW.

Beach clean 2023
Schools, and especially business, want change to a refill / reuse ideology. There needs to be a shift in people’s everyday habits, drinking cups and bottles to reuse and refill.
The community want refill fountains, and pubs during festivals want to implement a deposit return scheme ending our use of single-use plastic.
This is only the tip of the iceberg, because everyday marine litter continues, sewage pollution keeps coming and Southern Water needs an upgrade NOW! There are amazing people out there litter picking on a weekly or daily basis and collecting plastic, which we don’t recycle here. We could all share this responsibility in our daily lives, in helping our natural environment.
Especially learning about basic fundamentals – that wet wipes and sanitary products must never go down any toilet, these go in the bin. Keeping it ‘natural’ in what we put down our loo is our responsibility.

It would be great to see people enjoying the afternoon outdoors on the beach.
Please let your friends & family know and let’s bring those ideas together on cleaning up our seas.
P.S Litter pickers will be provided and gloves, if you do have any of these items please bring them along. Everyone is welcome thank you!
