Farewell to Fat Sue
Sue Wood, aka Fat Sue – the owner of the corner shop on Bulverhythe Road that carries her name passed away suddenly on Tuesday. Photographer JJ Waller shares his tribute to her.
R.I.P. Shop keeper Sue Wood. Her corner shop Fat Sue’s ( The name ) was a unique and genuinely iconic part of the St Leonards on Sea landscape. Sue was a great supporter of my work – the most recent being an installation at the shop. Sue has also appeared in two of my books and in a BBC news item about my lockdown work. Thanks Sue, it was an honour to have known you.
JJ Waller and the Hastings Online Times team send our condolences to Sue’s family and friends. The shop in Bulverhythe Road, West St Leonards remains open. You can read a review of JJ Waller’s installation here. The weather has intervened, but the remains of the installation are still visible.
