Kitty loves Ms Kitty’s lullabies

Beautiful tabby, Oscar, has a thing about The Fabulous Red Diesel. Every night at 9pm, when Ms Kitty, singer from the band plays her lullabies over Facebook Live, Oscar’s owner, Susanne, goes onto the stairs, calls “Oscar, come listen to Kitty”and he comes rushing into her bedroom. He puts his paw on the phone and purrs along, staying for the whole set of nine songs.

On one occasion, Oscar was off his food for a day and limping, but the minute he heard the lullabies, settled himself down and started purring along. The next day, he was back to his old self again .

Oscar is not the only one enjoying Ms Kitty’s lullabies,the 9 song show has regular listeners, who wind down after a hard day of isolation in Kitty world. Ms Kitty, aka Kat Lee Ryan, is the front woman/songwriter /keys/flute player for The Fabulous Red Diesel and like most musicians, has found herself at a loose end in the evenings.

‘’I couldn’t cope with the idea of not playing music in a live setting, so I went Live on my own Facebook page. I play 9 songs every night, all original, and as I have a back catalogue of around 600 songs, I am having a lot of fun revisiting tunes I haven’t played for years, as well as playing brand new tunes that The Fabulous Red Diesel haven’t played yet.’’

Ms Kitty plays at home and has done so almost every night since lockdown started, totalling 67 shows to date, and some nights her husband, Duke Boom, the drummer from The Fabulous Red Diesel, joins her on percussion as he used to in their days in former bands Naked Angel and Katdog.

‘’Sometimes people buy me a ko-fi – a way of people leaving tips in a safe online way, but it’s not about that. Its about having a lovely connection with people through music, which is what I have always done and always loved. I am touched to see the same people tuning in every night and it always lifts my spirits, especially in these very strange times.’’

And it’s not just Hastings locals,or even confined to the UK; fans from Australia, America and Malaysia are settling down with a glass or mug of something relaxing to get sung to sleep by the fabulous Ms Kitty.
