Future vision

Observer Building planning application submitted

After a lot of work, White Rock Neighbourhood Ventures (WRNV) have submitted the planning application for the Observer Building to Hastings Borough Council.

Many local residents have contributed to these plans and dreams for the OB over the years, and we can’t wait to see them realised. See more detail about the plans in the Hastings Independent and the Architects’ Journal.

WRNV have come a long way, but they need your help for the next step.

Your support will make all the difference to the future development.

You can find the application here, with reports on every aspect of the building plan.

Restoration of the Observer Building

Please let Hastings Borough Council know that you support this development, and the plans for revitalising the building by:

commenting on the application here. Commenting is quick and easy!

writing a letter (see our template letter here for inspiration– your letter will have more impact if it is personal to you)

In your comments, you could mention the history of the Observer Building site, your links to it, or anything else that is meaningful to you. Comments about why these plans are different to what has come before would be especially helpful.

The best way to get unanimous support for any planning application, is for the council to hear directly from you, the people of Hastings and friends of the Observer Building.

“This is a project for which the brief has been written by you, the people of Hastings. The whole design has been driven by you. If you’re able to help support the planning process, that’s an amazing thing, because the Observer Building has truly got this community at its heart” Sarah Castle, director of IF_DO, architect and design practice working on Observer Building

“As always, the funders who will help us bring the building back to life need to know that local people want it to happen. Support for the planning application is a great way to show that.” Jess Steele, Observer Building Project Director

If more people work from home in the future then flats are the best choice. There is already a shortage of houses and apartments in the UK. The flats are in town and close to all amenities. The old Post Office opposite was also designated for flats but no action has been taken there.
With a growing population, homes are the best answer to help the town survive. Old town centres used to have people and shops, so let us return to that way of life.
