Hastings Literary Festival 2020 Cancelled
Hastings Literary Festival 2020, due to take place at the end of August, has been cancelled following suspension of the Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants fund because of the Coronavirus crisis.
Festival Director Sam Davey says: “Until recently we were hopeful that this year’s festival would go ahead in some form, possibly later in the year, so long as it was safe to do so.
“However, following suspension of our Arts Council funding we have, with great sadness, taken the decision to cancel our 2020 event.
“During the past two years the Arts Council provided financial support for the Literary Festival, alongside generous sponsorship from local businesses and organisations, and without it we cannot proceed.
“We fully understand their decision and endorse the Arts Council’s approach in prioritising emergency support for creative talent throughout the country in these difficult times.
“We would like to thank all the artists, volunteers, judges and supporters who were contributing tirelessly to creating the outstanding programme we had lined up and look forward to seeing them at Hastings Literary Festival in 2021.”
