Sun SHINES on European visitors
Delegates from northern Europe have enjoyed a fact-finding visit to Hastings, hosted by the borough council. HBC’s Kevin Boorman writes.
Lead member for housing, Cllr Andy Batsford, explained: “We are partners in a European Union ‘Interreg 2’ scheme called ‘SHINE’ – Sustainable Housing in Inclusive NEighbourhoods.
“Partners from 14 organisations in northern Europe, including Belgium, France and The Netherlands, and of course the UK, recently visited Hastings for a fact-finding trip based at our Muriel Matters House offices on the seafront.
“They toured parts of central St Leonards to view different property types, and discussed how we might improve the living conditions, particularly heating, in a sustainable way, without damaging the important heritage of the area.
“We will be working with our partners Optivo and the local Citizens Advice Bureau to help make these changes, which will help the environment and those living in the area by reducing the energy they need.
“Our European visitors really enjoyed their visit here, and went back with a very positive impression of Hastings, and what we are trying to achieve.”
