Mark Thomas at his HFS talk at St Mary in the Castle
Making furniture re-use sexy
“Dealing with the very unsexy issue of providing furniture for poor people, HFS is a magnificent group” said Mark Thomas, the comedian, writer and campaigner who is patron of Hastings Furniture Service (HFS). Naomi Ridley of HFS writes.
HFS suggested Mark pose for a photo to #MakeFurnitureReuseSexy while he was in Hastings to perform his award-winning Red Shed show at St Mary in the Castle. Adopting a pose on a repainted chair from the HFS store, Mark said he was inspired by a combination of Christine Keeler and Johnny Cash.

Mark Thomas also added a fund-raising afternoon talk to his tour schedule to support HFS. The event was a huge success. The venue was full and the audience thoroughly enjoyed Mark’s talk about his career, comedy, mischief and campaigning. Mark invited HFS to run a stall at his Red Shed show in the evening and his lovely audience donated generously. Altogether the day raised over £700 for the charity.
Further funds will be raised through a partnership between Mark Thomas and the Philosophy Football website which is selling a fund-raising t-shirt to benefit HFS.
