Around and about (XIV)
Some updates from the Combe Haven Defenders* on their efforts to protect local green spaces – and some things we can do to support them.
Despite planning permission for the Queensway Gateway Road being cancelled due to air quality concerns, tree-felling continued last week in Hollington Valley. Members of the Combe Haven Defenders managed to stop the process after a five-hour stand-off.
On 26 July you can attend a ‘You Must Be Choking’ gathering against any future plans to promote the Queensway Gateway Road.
Local artist and campaigner Emily Johns tries to track down John Shaw – CEO of SeaChange Sussex, the not-for-profit economic development company leading the Queensway Gateway Road plan – to ask him some questions – and gets a visit from the police.
We can pledge to attend a future planning meeting, should Hastings Borough Council reconsider the plans for the Gateway Road, as they have said they will.
SeaChange reveal their plans for another new road.
* The Combe Haven Defenders are a group of individuals committed to protecting local green spaces, caring very much about air quality, climate change, the benefits offered by nature to humans and the rights of non-human species to exist alongside us.
Around and about is written by HOT’s Zelly Restorick, who admires the principles and work of the Combe Haven Defenders and their supporters. However, it’s important to clarify that some members of HOT fully support the road-building and business centre development plans.
