Big Local quiz night proves a hit in Ore
Northeast Hastings Big Local sponsored its first social evening in the form of a quiz night last Friday at Ore Community Centre. As well as raising the profile of Big Local, £300 was raised for St Georges Paediatric Children’s ward in recognition of their invaluable treatment of a local boy. HOT’s Ore correspondent Graham Hodgson reports.
Around 12 teams took part, with the eventual winners being STEPS, an organisation that provides support for over 65’s in the area. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and Northeast Hastings Big Local (NEHBL) is looking to sponsor regular events in the area, including a race night to follow soon.
In addition to social events, NEHBL is now awarding grants of up to £500 to fund groups or organisations who are interested in promoting Big Local or benefit the population of the northeast Hastings area.
Applications will be judged on whether a grant will help to publicise Big Local and contribute to achieving the overall outcomes of Big Local. The following criteria have to be met:
• Communities will be better able to identify local needs and take action in response to them;
• People will have increased skills and confidence so that they can continue to identify and respond to local needs in the future;
• The community will make a difference to the needs it prioritises;
• People will feel that their area is an even better place to live.
