A Midsummer Night's Dream
A Midsummer Night’s Dream in St Leonards Gardens
A preview by John Knowles
Returning for their fifth year, the Mercatoria Company will once again be wooing and wowing audiences in St Leonards Gardens with this abridged, promenade show. This year sees the original cast of 2007 returning in new roles in one of Shakespeare’s most accessible, magical and openly funny comedies. Directed by Laura Dunton-Clarke in the company’s inimitable style, the production promises an engaging mix of music, comedy and physical performance.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream needs little introduction: The frustrated and confused lovers roaming in woods inhabited by faeries, the wicked Puck and the chaotic amateur dramatics of the Rude Mechanicals are well known to all. As with previous shows, however, Mercatoria Theatre Co has added its mark – this year setting the play in the 1980’s. So put on your fingerless gloves, back-comb your hair, shrug on some shoulder pads and head down to St Leonard’s Gardens. There will be a bar on site and we welcome picnickers.
