Diggers, dumpers and the foundations of a better future

Pathway to Construction returns to Alexandra Park on Saturday 22 June from 10am-4pm. A FREE and fun-filled day for all the family celebrating and showcasing the skills and opportunities in the construction industry and the built environment – focusing on eco construction and sustainable technologies.

Throughout the day there will be hands-on demonstrations by students at Sussex Coast College in bricklaying and plastering, carpentry and plumbing – as well as building a new training house in the park with students from colleges in Northern France.  You can have a go at plastering with traditional materials like eco cork render onto wood-wool boards with specialists Chalk Down Lime and Skills-4-Me based in Rye can tell you about their alternative training and skills construction centre and courses available while you can have a go at trying to build a straight wall! And In2Play will also be on hand to keep all budding Bob the Builders happy with lots of play activities aimed at younger children.

The day also features the school House Build challenge – the culmination of a competition held for local schools and sponsored by Jewsons Ltd and local contractors Booker & Best Ltd, George Stone Ltd,  and Westoaks Builders to build a scaled house. You can watch their progress during the day and cheer on your favourite team. Teams include: William Parker, Bexhill High, Hastings Academy, Blacklands Primary and for the first time two groups of schoolchildren from France will join in the challenge.

There will be diggers and dumpers, workshops and play activities – something for everyone! With lots of great food, entertainment and music from our media partners Arrow FM and up-and-coming artists from the Future Talent agency this is a day not to be missed!

Pathway to Construction is part of the Interreg Ecofab project which encourages the exchange and acquisition of knowledge, as well as the development of skills in the field of eco-construction.
