Ferret Noise Japanese rock/arts artist at the Jenny Lind
Jude Montague talks to Ferret Noise aka Yayoi Tsushima about her work in advance of her performance on Tuesday 4 November at the Jenny Lind Music Pub
JUDE: Who are you and what is your background in music?
YAYOI: I formed TsuShiMaMiRe as bassist and songwriter with Mari Kono at Chiba University in 1999. Since then we released over 30 albums and toured many countries, around 40 tours.
I started Ferret Noise in 2020 and I released 2 albums and now making a 3rd album.
JUDE: Why did you pick the name Ferret Noise?
YAYOI: I wanted people all over the world to understand easier (A Japanese name is difficult to remember for foreigners sometimes).
When I thought about a solo name at the bar with a friend, he said that he imagined something about “noise” from my song. Also at that time, other friend sent me a video of Ferret. I felt it was fate. So, I decided my solo project name is “Ferret Noise”.
JUDE: What do you want an audience to get from your performances, if anything?
YAYOI: I want audience to enjoy my music freely, feeling it with your body and mind. Please dance!
JUDE: Tell me anything interesting about the differences in playing music in Japan and England for you.
YAYOI: The first time I performed in the UK, no one knew me, but they started dancing as soon as the show started. I was so happy!
