Opera South East hit the road with new Gilbert & Sullivan gala evening
Opera South East are hitting the road to bring their Gilbert & Sullivan Gala to local audiences in Winchelsea, Battle and Bexhill. Chairman John Rycroft describes the delights in store.
Gilbert and Sullivan are probably the most famous musical partnership of all time. Their operatic creations have delighted audiences and performers worldwide for well over a century and continue to inspire new converts with each successive generation.
Over the last few decades Opera South East have been performing whole works of Gilbert & Sullivan, most recently in April 2022 with a production of The Mikado at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings, as well as giving recitals of excerpts from a wide range of G&S operas.
The chorus of OSE, and invited guests, unite in taking a musical journey through the topsy turvy world of Gilbert & Sullivan at the end of April 2025. Over the space of three consecutive nights, from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 April, we will be performing in Winchelsea, Battle and Bexhill.
Among the many items featured in these performances will be well-loved excerpts from The Gondoliers, HMS Pinafore, The Mikado, The Gondolier, and The Pirates of Penzance.
The gala evening will be conducted and directed by Marcio da Silva, who was appointed musical director of Opera South East in 2023, and needs no introduction to local audiences.
So come along and be transported into this mystical world of fun and frivolity, and enjoy an evening with Gilbert & Sullivan.
