Feet on the pier at last!
April 27 2016: the opening of the pier. After snow the day before, the sky in the morning was bright, bright blue. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths grabbed her camera and snuck down to the pier to experience the feeling of feet on the wood, the length and breadth of it.
Clouds gathered in the morning but the rain held off. The pier was thronged with people, smiling. I know there have been some naysayers who have grumbled about the pier but they seemed to have stayed away; those on it this morning seemed to be really thrilled by it. There were grandparents, parents, children and picnickers.
And dogs – dog owners walking their pets while they can. And everyone was appreciating the space, the benches, the unclutteredness of it all. The detail.
The pier looks like the hulk of a boat out at sea.
Some people came prepared with their picnics. Weather was not going to deter them from the fun of the pier.
Dogs are allowed on out of season – holiday season that is…
Yet there are horses…
Reflections in the glass…
Almost lunch time and people were queuing for lunch…
Clouds were gathering. Time to scoot home…
But I couldn’t resist an ice cream from William the Conequeror…
