Beeb says BNP is the same as “absolutely any story”
In an email signed by David Larner, Complaints Co-ordinator BBC Audience Services, our case against the attempt to cook up Hastings as a race-hate story was shrugged off with the words: “Clearly you have your own strong, personal views on the party, but the BBC will cover the BNP whenever we consider it newsworthy and of interest to our audiences as is the case with absolutely any story.”
He continued “The BNP, their policies, reaction, electoral results and related issues will continue to be comprehensively covered across the wider BBC — therefore locally, nationally and internationally when appropriate — on television, radio and online therefore meaning that taken as a whole BBC output on the matter is, we feel, comprehensive, fair, editorially appropriate and balanced.”
We feel this is a slap in the face for all the victims of racist violence, insults and vandalism both here in Hastings and around the country, and will be appealing this decision.
And whatever happened to BBC English?
