Zooquarium Festival

Zooquarium!

Glastonbury eat your heart out! Zooquarium is here. Hastings Pier is delighted to announce, not only a whopping line up of over 54 acts for Zooquarium festival on Saturday 15 July – Rat Boy is headlining – but also a selection of quality comperes including the wonderful Doon MacKichan, sister of local musical hero, Blair and uber famous in her own right for ‘Smack the Pony’ and ‘The Borrowers’.

ZOOQUARIUM Festival shows off the best in new and local music throughout East Sussex. The aim is to support young people in achieving their potential and providing roles for young people to get involved in event management, technical support and marketing.

Hey-I-am-Rodney-300x225Rodney welcomes you to ZOOQUARIUM Festival, a new music festival on Hastings Pier. The festival is for 14 to 24 year olds, but everyone is welcome.

Zooquarium encourages you dress up with their zoo animal theme, which can include zebras and elephants and lions and crocodiles and penguins and anything else you can think of.

The Zooquarium Festival will be hosting an enormous number of acts over four separate stages on the pier: Starlings Stage, The Lounge Lizard Stage, Journey To The Deep Stage and Sunset Stage.

Celebrating the talents of local young people

Rat Boy

Rat Boy

One of the aims of the festival is to celebrate and showcase the talent of local young people. We welcome local singer songwriters and bands to perform alongside professional musicians. The idea is to give a platform to local young people to perform on Hastings Pier on a large stage, with professional equipment and support alongside our headline act, Rat Boy.

Organisers are purposefully keeping ticket costs low to make the festival as accessible as possible for local young people. They have included the booking fee in the ticket price to make this an affordable event. All of the money from ticket sales will be ploughed back into ZOOQUARIUM. The more money they make, the better they can make the festival for you!

So please encourage your friends and family to come along. The aim is to make this an annual event and they hope to make enough money to run ZOOQUARIUM in 2018 and beyond.

More comperes announced

Alongside compere Doon MacKichen, Zoe Morgan, director of local theatre company ‘George Lassos the Moon’ and a Stables theatre regular will be compering the main stage slot including introducing the headline act, ‘Rat Boy’.

On the spoken word stage will be father and daughter duo, Duncan and Eve Reekie. Duncan is known for his work with the super cool and edgy London based underground film event, ‘The Exploding Cinema’ and Eve is a student at Helenswood studying performing arts.

Alongside them will be Jesse Lawrence, graduate of DV8, who will amuse with his dry humour and wit. Adding to the pool of local talent will be local girl Lily Cooper, bringing her fresh, feisty and comical approach to life, and there are more comperes still to be announced.

Learning and Education Manager Beatrice Rapley told us: “We are thrilled to have Doon, Duncan, Eve, Zoe, Lily and Jesse compering for us and grateful that they are giving their time for free to support this amazing event celebrating local talent. I’m blown away by the skills and energy of people in Hastings, St. Leonards, Bexhill and Rye. And we still have a few spots left for volunteer comperes and stage managers, so people can get in touch with the pier if they’d like to get involved.

“It’s going to be an amazing festival with beautiful music, dancing, creative costumes, a rock star photo booth, delicious food, festival face painting, deckchairs to catch some rays, cocktails & mocktails at the Pink Flamingo bar, and life affirming laughter. I just can’t wait! Capacity is limited to 2500 for this event and half of the tickets are already gone, don’t miss out, book your tickets now!”

The pier is fully accessible for wheelchairs with disabled toilets and a lift to the upper deck. Mobility scooters are allowed at 2mph. For the festival an additional disabled platform will be added for main stage viewing.
