Stage3 hastings 21

Stage 3 involves youngsters with global issues

This Saturday 30 March, 1-2pm, the Stage 3 theatre company, part of People’s Palace Projects, are bringing their award-winning and self-titled performance to the White Rock theatre. Immediately following will be a free workshop for ages 12-18 to discuss concerning issues in a fun and interactive fashion. HOT’s Jordan Dixon writes.

In an age where the future of our next generation is uncertain and a time where issues surrounding race and culture are at the forefront of the media and internet, Stage 3 are offering a forum, through the medium of performance, to have frank discussions about concerns regarding migration, discrimination and belonging, issues that resonate with people of all ages.

The brainchild of 10 students from the Queen Mary University in London, Stage 3 is a production which aims to challenge the narrative of division and exclusion and act as catalyst for positive change. Whether it be locally and specifically offering the younger generation a chance to be heard, or within a wider context by uniting average citizens, cultural influencers and decision makers.

The performance was first shown at the Borough of Tower Hamlets in London and is an interactive event which uses a mock citizenship process to create a space for dialogue between the performers, local citizens, and decision makers; subsequently challenging the process of being categorised based on race, age and socio-economic background. Many have commented that Stage 3 highlights how easily we can be divided and opens conversations about how we label people.

Following tomorrow’s performance will be a theatre making workshop, free of charge and exclusive to those between the ages of 12 and 18. Led by theatre director Canan Salih and joined by the rest of the Stage 3 company, the workshop will involve games and exercises, which allow youngsters to create their own show based on any issues relevant and meaningful to them.

Stage 3 will be performing this Saturday 30 March at 1 – 2pm at the White Rock Theatre. To book your free ticket(s), click here.

Eligible attendees can participate in the workshop between 2.15 and 3.15pm. To book a free place or for further information, please email: jstead-burgess@whiterocktheatre.org.uk
