Front Row: Out Of This World

Calling all fashionistas! Get ready for the Front Row Fashion Show, ‘Out Of This World’, the South East’s renowned fashion event. Front Row is a two-day event on the weekend of 21 and 22 November comprising a catwalk show, music, a public design competition – The Charity Shop Challenge – and a Vintage Fair. Both young and established designers are invited to work with materials that are re-used and re-cycled – a truly grass-roots event that champions Sussex creativity and compassion fashion, explains organiser Maika Crampton.

The Front Row Catwalk Show will showcase 12 designers invited from the BBC South East area. The catwalk shows will be hosted by BBC Radio 2’s Maria McErlane and BAFTA-nominated actress Doon Mackichan. A second day Vintage Fair has also been announced – and will be headlined by local artist Mel Elliott – the woman behind the I Love Mel label and the global cult for celebrity colouring-in books.

80s pop-star-turned-fashion-designer Martin Degville of Sigue Sigue Sputnik will be headlining this year’s event, showcasing new fashion designs and also performing several songs.

SEEDgigflyerfinalFund raiser and special offer to HOT readers!

Front Row is a not-for-profit event, raising money for the Terence Higgins Trust (ahead of World Aids Day) and St Michael’s Hospice, which has been devastated by fire so recently.

There will also be a fund-raiser at SEED bar and restaurant in Hastings Old Town on Friday, 23 October 2015 (7pm doors open. 8pm start). This is by invitation only, but – as you’ll see below – you have the chance to win 2 tickets!

During the 1980’s, the Sique Sique Sputnik phenomena was originally fronted by the charismatic lead vocalist, Martin Degville, co-writer, creator, but above all the face of SSS. In 1986, SSS released their worldwide hit Love Missile F1-11 followed by the track Success in collaboration with Stock, Aitken & Waterman, which reached the Top 20 in the UK charts.

Since the original band split it up, Martin has taken the sound of SSS into the 21st Century and created Sique Sique Sputnik Electronic, developing a new high tech electro rock & roll cyber shock sound.

Martin Degville has kindly donated one of his original artworks to be auctioned/raffled off, during the evening at SEED. Raffle tickets are £5 each and can be purchased online – and on the night, supporting both the Terrence Higgins Trust and St. Michael’s Hospice.

The Front Row team are also excited to announce that the night will be rounded off with a DJ set by Adamski, English dance music producer extraordinaire, prominent at the time of acid house for his tracks N-R-G and Killer. Adamski will be showcasing his innovative new electronic music project, Futurewaltz.

For all HOT readers: the Front Row team are offering the chance to win 2 guest list tickets for this spectacular night for anyone able to answer the following 2 questions about Front Row: What was the theme of the FRONT ROW Fashion Show in 2010 and where was it held? The first person to email the correct answers to the following email – info@thisisfrontrow.com – will win the complementary tickets to be at the 23 October SEED gig.

The Charity Shop Challenge

The Charity Shop Challenge 2015 is part of the Front Row Fashion & Performance Art Show also taking place on 21 November at the De La Warr Pavilion: an inspiring opportunity for designers and amateurs alike to submit a garment fashioned from customized second-hand charity shop clothes with a budget of only £20. Entries are then judged by a panel of international fashion luminaries with an awards ceremony held on the night.

This year’s show theme, ‘Out of this World’, draws inspiration from the universe, planets and space, as well as lost or invisible worlds, the mind or just sheer otherworldly glamour.

All of the entrants will boldly go where no designer has gone before!
