Transition Town Hastings offers full slate of meetings and projects
Here’s what the Transition Town folk have organised or are promoting in the coming week or so – and some news about money raised for Solar Aid.
Fossil Free Hastings Meeting
Wednesday 27 January 7-9pm.
White Rock Hotel, White Rock, Hastings, TN34 1JX. Join the discussion and planning for the group’s activities, including how to move the Hastings Borough Council divestment campaign forward.
Transition Town Energy Group Meeting
Thursday 28 January 19-20:30pm.
Hastings Trust offices, Silchester Mews, Silchester Road, TN38 0JB.
Warrior Square Station Community Garden project
Work is already under way at Warrior Square Station garden! The plan is to plant fruit trees, build raised beds containing edible plants, plant climbers along the railings with ornamental plants interspersed elsewhere. Come and help out at one of our sessions (at the moment roughly every other weekend). The next session is Saturday 6 Feb 10am-1pm. Bring some tools and gloves if you can, but otherwise just bring yourself!
Hastings Big Happy Energy Day
Wednesday 17 February 10am–4pm at Sussex Coast College, Station Plaza, Hastings. Local voluntary organisations will be giving advice on how you can save money and live a healthier life. Come along whether you need help with health, well-being or energy advice – or wish to sign up to community volunteering. There will also be taster workshops on yoga and movement classes. Facebook page here.
Divest East Sussex Pension Fund from Fossil Fuels
This campaign is asking East Sussex County Council to move their money: divest from companies which threaten the environment and actively commit to investing further in low-carbon assets and renewable energy within the next five years.

Solar Aid donation
Back in November Jeremy Leggett came to Hastings to talk about his new book, The Winning of The Carbon War. Jeremy has now finished the book and it is available to order here with proceeds to SolarAid. Donations towards the talk in November raised over £400 for Solar Aid. They recently sent their thanks along with this graphic illustrating the impact of the money raised.
Best wishes to you from the Transition Town Hastings and St Leonards Core Team.
