Transition Town and Fossil Free Hastings news

Some of the Transition Town team are involved with the Fossil Free Hastings campaign – and are helping to promote two events: a Tug of War and Carbon Bubble, plus you’re invited to a Transition Town Pot Luck meal: a great way to connect with like-minded people. TTH provide the details.

Some TTH members have joined up with the newly formed Fossil Free Hastings to focus on the divestment campaign. As you probably know, this is all about encouraging companies and organisations to take their investments out of the fossil fuel industry and to re-invest elsewhere- preferably in clean energy sources.

Carbon Bubble action THIS Wednesday

The next full meeting of Hastings Council will be taking place this Wednesday (10 February) at 6pm in the Town Hall (Queens Square, Hastings TN34 1QR). A couple of members of the Fossil Free Hastings group will be staging a brief (5.30-6pm) protest outside the Town Hall with leaflets, bubbles, a pin and some signs saying: Divest from Fossil Fuels and When will the carbon bubble burst? Their plan is to leaflet and connect with the councillors going into the meeting. You’re very welcome to come along. Please email or text Gabriel if you’re able to join us! (See here for more on the idea of the carbon bubble.)

Climate Tug of War action THIS Saturday

The Climate Tug of War action, taking place this Saturday, 13 February, will involve two teams (one in green, one in black) staging a theatrical tug of war (Fossil Fuels v the Climate) in Hastings Town Centre at 2pm and then in King’s Rd in St Leonards at 3.30pm. The arguments for and against divestment will be aired, and members of the public encouraged to show their support for their chosen side. The action is part of a national weekend of actions around the UK, co-ordinated by Fossil Free UK.

We may need more volunteer rope-pullers and leafleters, so please come and join the fun!

For more information about either of the events, please contact Fossil Free Hastings via their website.

Transition Town Hastings Pot Luck Meal

The TTH team are excited to invite you to a warm and friendly Pot Luck Meal on Saturday 27 February from 7-9.30pm. If you’re not familiar with the concept, pot luck meals are about everyone (if you can) bringing some sort of food, a dish, hot or cold or some sort of snack…anything really! So it will be buffet style! Also, for simplicity, we are making it an alcohol-free night!

It will be held at St John’s Church Hall, which is on Brittany Road (where it meets Pevensey Road) in St Leonards-on-Sea. We’d like to make it clear TTH has no religious agenda/affiliation, but we needed a large space with a kitchen and we have been lucky enough to use the church hall free of charge as the rector is very much into the Tranisiton Town ethos!

It will be very informal; we’d like to get to know more members and thank those that have already got involved in any way. It will also give us an opportunity to fill you in on what we’ve all been up to, answer any questions and just discuss ideas or projects to come. Please let us know if you can make it.
