Razor resigns
Player/manager Sean Ray has resigned as manager of Hastings United Football Club with immediate effect , writes HOT’s Liam Willis. This came as a shock to the players, staff and fans of the football club as he had given the Hastings United community a lot of belief and it seemed that he had it all planned out about the imminent future of the club.
The statement appeared on the club website on the afternoon of Wednesday 7 August after Ray had been talking to chairman Dave Walters. Sean Ray offered his resignation to Walters and this was accepted.
The club refuse to comment any more on the case until there are further developments. Assistant manager and first team coach, Mark Stapley and Terry White will be taking charge of United until a suitable replacement for Ray is found.
United’s first game in the Ryman League South came yesterday, Saturday 10 August, when United started their 2013/2014 campaign with a healthy three points away at Chipstead. A narrow 1-0 victory for United came with a Matt MacLean header just before half-time, and United move on to their first home game on Monday 12 August against Walton Casuals, who themselves came back from two down to win 5-3 yesterday.
