Toby Belch is Unwell

For one night only: Toby Belch Is Unwell

‘I love your script’ Tim McMullan (Toby Belch – Twelfth Night – The National Theatre)

John Knowles writes: Toby Belch might be familiar to many readers, the drunken sot, the endlessly louche and small-time bully from Twelfth Night, who famously takes part in a plot to usurp and outwit one Malvolio. But you do not need to be a Shakespeare scholar or even a Shakespeare lover to enjoy Toby Belch is Unwell as this is a timeless comedy which explores the ‘blistering howl of outrage from the also-rans and under-achievers of life presented with utter stripped-back simplicity, humour and verve.’

Toby Belch is Unwell is a play for anyone who has ever wanted to achieve more, who still dreams of one day, who still perseveres with their art despite being kicked down by life.

The one-hour plus comedy monologue also explores the love of theatre, which is emphatically portrayed by Sidney Kean, an actor who has spent his entire life on the boards and on our TV screens and whose passion for theatre is obvious throughout the show. This is probably the last outing for Toby Belch is Unwell in Hastings, before it departs for a UK tour later on this year and into 2018. After a sell-out show at the St Leonard Pub on London Road with Time Please, It’s Not Us theatre company are pleased to be back in the pub with this new work.
