All go at Zoom Arts gallery

It’s all go these days at Zoom Arts gallery beside Warrior Square station, where weekly shows are the order of the day. Last week the gallery was visited by local MP Amber Rudd, and this week local artist Christina Macadam is exhibiting. Zoom’s Susan Cleland reports.

Hastings MP Amber Rudd paid a visit to the Zoom Arts gallery by Warrior Square Station in St Leonards last Friday, 7 July, to see the exhibition by local artists Sheryl Hall and Chris Dredge entitled ‘Latibulum Lumen Candles and Ashes to Embers’.

Ms Rudd spent time looking at the work and finding out about the artists. Other members of Zoom present included chairman Robert Maxted, who explained about the group and how it helps both local artists and charities.

“It was lovely to meet Amber Rudd MP in person today after she accepted our invitation to come to view our art exhibition,” commented Sheryl Hall. “I was humbled that a member of parliament took the time to travel all the way from London to our exhibition. It has really been a memorable moment.”

This week sees an eye catching spectacle of colour and texture and an inspiring display of talent by local artist Christina Macadam and some of the students of her Mixed Media & Acrylic Painting Workshops. Christina herself is presenting a few paintings from her latest body of work, based on her Soul Plan Mandalas, which she launched at the Zoom Gallery last summer.

Christina facilitates mixed media workshops in St Leonards and Battle, where she provides a space in which one can discover the artist within, play and create with paint and textured materials. You don’t need to be an artist to join in, just a willingness to explore through art, she says.

The students vary from people who have never felt they were creative and ones who desire to rekindle the relationship to the creativity of their schooldays, to artists who feel blocked or stuck in their own practice. Everyone leaves with a sense of achievement and an incredible piece of artwork, many of which will be shown at this exhibition.

Extravaganza of Colour Mixed media exhibition by Christina Macadam and others. Zoom Arts Gallery, Warrior Square Station, Kings Road, St Leonards-0n-Sea TN37 6HL. To 15 July, daily from 10am to 4pm.
