In the light of Surrealism #2
In the light of Surrealism #2
In August, Hastings Arts Forum will see the second exhibition: “In the light of Surrealism #2”, curated by artist Jo Welsh.
As an art movement, since its inception in 1924, Surrealism has continued to influence artists and designers. Many good advertising campaigns would be lost without their reference to Surrealism. It captures people’s imagination, making us think, laugh, make connections, feel unnerved, liberated.
“The ten artists I have selected for this show are a mixture of local artists and others from London and beyond. All have been influenced, directly or indirectly, by Surrealism. I am pleased to announce there will be three Royal Academicians in the show – Brian Catling, Gus Cummins, and Mick Rooney. All have strong links with Hastings, a chance for local people to see their work over the summer.
“The other artists – Tony Penrose, Kathleen Fox, Jane Hoodless, Jo Redpath, Kathrine Reekie, Tim Riddihough and Jacob Welsh – will be showing a diverse and intriguing selection of work.
“The exhibition will be a mixture of 2D and 3D work and will be on for 4 weeks beginning the 8 August.”
