Prizewinner returns for autumn recital

2014 winner of the Hastings International Piano Competition, Taek Gi Lee, has returned to the UK for a few select performances, including another recital at Fairlight Hall this Saturday, 31 October. This evening, 28 October, he is centrepiece of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra programme at the Fairfield Hall in Croydon with one of the most popular works ever written for the piano: Grieg’s piano concerto. HOT’s Chris Cormack knows Taek-Gi will  show how he can master the dramatic opening,  the rich lyrical melodies and the other passages of show-stopping virtuosity.

The well-tempered piano put through its paces

This Saturday evening, 5 July,  Hastings’ piano champion returned to delight us at Fairlight Hall and put the piano through its paces again with something old, something new… writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Hastings backed a winner!

The word is that this year’s Hastings  International Piano Concerto Competition surpassed the Leeds International Piano Competition in the quality of the entrants – (Leeds is usually regarded as the ‘brand leader’ in the UK). This must be largely due to the brilliant young winner of this year’s Hastings competition who will be returning to Hastings only in July to perform a special summer recital in the grounds of Fairlight Hall, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

And the winner is…

At the end of the semi-finals of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition the generally accepted view seemed to be that one of the two South Koreans – Yekwon Sunwoo and Taek Gi Lee – was likely to be winning the prize, writes Antony Mair.

A feast of music at the Piano Concerto Competition Semi-final

The semi-finals of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition brought a feast of music for those of us in the White Rock Theatre last night.  For the laughable cost of £8 per seat we were treated to seven mini-recitals by a quite remarkable array of young players ranging in age from 17 to 27, writes Antony Mair.
