Sounds and smithies at the Stade

Stade Saturdays and ROOT 1066 present Blacksmiths on the Beach at the Stade Open Space in Hastings. The British Artist Blacksmiths’ Association (BABA) visits Hastings with three days of blacksmithing demonstrations and workshops. So many people drift down to live in Hastings – and sometimes you wonder how and why. One particular person is Japanese, Yumino Seki, an exotic bird in our midst, who is introducing us to her European take on Japanese Butoh dance. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was curious to know more about her.

Accordion heaven

For lovers of the accordion this was indeed a weekend to be remembered with not one, but two outstanding performances. On Friday night we were treated to the dry wit, political satire and Jewish Klezmer punk of Canadian Geoff Berner and his stripped down band of violin and paired down drum kit. On Saturday we had the Tiger Lillies, playing dark songs with disturbing lyrics at the Stade. HOT’s John Knowles was there.
