From Wildfell Hall to The Palace

The innovative theatre company Hallucinating Angels put Paula Yates in a big black dress and sexed up the De La Warr Pavilion, took you for a spin in the limo on their wedding day, invited you to share your shoe story in their pop up shop and chat about love in their tent. If you missed all that you can still experience Wildfell – a performance and film inspired by The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte.

Seaview choir caps successful concert

Seaview’s hugely enjoyable carol concert in St John the Evangelist Church last Saturday was supported by Sound Waves Community Choir and a cappella group, Now and Then and ended with a performance by Seaview’s own choir. The event proved a successful fundraiser, bringing in donations of £774 from a record crowd, estimated at 200 plus. The tally for the Big Sleep in September is still under way, but has so far reached more than £25,000. As public funding dwindles, Seaview is increasingly reliant on its own resources to raise the vital funds for its invaluable work with homeless, vulnerable and distressed people. Nick Terdre writes. This week! Rough sleeping for Seaview

This Friday, it’s The Big Sleep Hastings 2016 – with the goal to raise more funds for the Seaview Project than last year (£23,000) – and simultaneously raise awareness of homelessness. HOT’s Zelly Restorick takes up the HOT Big Sleep baton from last year’s cardboard citizen, Nick Terdre. She’ll be joining up with the many other one-night-insomniacs who’re taking part in the experience, united by spending the night in a cardboard city at the Stade.

When all else fails, Seaview is there

You can call the emergency services if you need police, ambulance or fire-fighters, but there is another emergency service in town performing an equally important role – the Seaview Project, which helps homeless and vulnerable people and those whose lives have fallen apart but who can find no help from the official agencies. Strategy director Mike Cornish told Nick Terdre how it works.

Ready for the Big Sleep

This Friday evening the Seaview Project will throw the spotlight on the growing problem of homelessness in Hastings with an evening of music in the Stade Open Space followed by the Big Sleep, when some 150 fund-raising volunteers will bed down in the open to experience the reality of sleeping rough for a night. Nick Terdre reports.
