Nearly 100 people packed into the newly-refurbished Printworks on Claremont to view the 2012 Hastings Film Challenge, this year with a theme of “Terror vs. Horror”. In a blatant attempt to establish himself as HOT’s film critic Richard Hull braved the zombies and luvvies to bring this report.

Cycle Twinning

Keeping alive the tradition of twin towns, 14 members of Hastings Urban Bikes (HUB) journeyed to The Netherlands for a long weekend between September 14 to 18 where they were welcomed and accommodated by members of the Dordrecht Touring Club de Mol. Richard Hull went along for the ride (and the Dutch beer).

The Hastings Way to Film

Is there a Hastings school of film? A style of film-making distinct to the area and its people? After all Hastings “is one of the most creative parts of the UK” as artist Gary Dorking remarked recently here in Hastings Online Times. A recent programme of films under the title ‘Arrow in the eye’ at the Electric Palace on May 13 sought to answer this question, and Richard Hull watched and listened with keen attention.

Cycle rickshaws in Portas Pilot bid

Representatives of the business, residential and cultural communities of central St Leonards met on Thursday 22 March to view a draft video developed by local film-maker Glenys Jacques as part of the bid for regeneration funding under the Portas Pilots scheme, writes Richard Hull. Rose Wylie is a woman to watch, according to a newspaper article by Germaine Greer. The newspaper quote arose out of the findings of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, that art galleries and museums around the world exhibited mostly men.
