Formative Films Season at Electric Palace

Was David Bailey the inspiration for the central character in the film Blow Up? Style guru, lecturer, author and photographer Ted Polhemus provides his viewpoint, as the first special guest to share his choice of influential film in a new Formative Film season at the Electric Palace cinema in Hastings Old Town. Starting this Friday 20 October, Polhemus will present Michaelangelo Antonioni’s 1966 iconic film, Blow Up, a countercultural masterpiece set in the streets of swinging London. Annie Waite speaks with the social commentator Polhemus about why the “film about style which gets just about every element of styling spot on” changed his life.

For a couple of years, Susan Diamond’s boutique brought a fistful of Chelsea to Kings Road, St Leonards. But nothing stays put for long in the World of Diamond, and lately she’s departed from designing statement pieces for Charles of London’s fashion label in favour of canvas. ‘Hallo Sausages’, The Lyrics of Ian Dury

In the year he would have celebrated his 70th Birthday, Jemima Dury, daughter of musician Ian Dury, has published a book of 160 of her father’s song lyrics.  Titled ‘Hallo Sausages’, the first and only words written for his autobiography, the book also includes a personal history of his life, a spectrum of personal photos and illustrations, some of the original manuscripts, memorabilia and a CD.  HOT’s Zelly Restorick met with Hastings resident, Jemima Dury, to talk about the book and memories of her father.
