Council ignores planning abuses (including its own)

The Rocklands mess does not get better. The caravan park’s current retrospective planning application for the Bunker uglifying the Country Park doesn’t mention the Bunker balcony extension put in after the Planning Inspector’s decision to forbid it. Hastings Borough Council (HBC) doesn’t mention it either, and has shelved its enforcement enquiry pending hearing of the application. Years after this controversy started, it remains all not good enough. Report and photos by Bernard McGinley.

Bunker planning application makes independent remeasurement a live issue

With its latest planning application, Rocklands Caravan Park is seeking to go round (or supersede) the Planning Inspector’s decision regarding the notorious ‘Bunker’ beside Hastings Country Park. Will Hastings Borough Council (HBC) require remeasurement of the misshapen building before deciding on the application, to know what it’s dealing with? What about the other works on site? Bernard McGinley tries to find out, again.

Archery Ground developers get their way

Cabinet ministers and others agree that the Archery Ground in St Leonards-on-Sea is part of a site of national importance. Hastings Borough Council is less impressed, and their relentless indulgence of developers has continued anyway. Following approval by the planning committee of owner Gemselect’s request for changes, Bernard McGinley wonders what happened to good housing and St Leonards.

‘Bunker’ appeal listed but postponed

The so-called Bunker dominating the Country Park at Rocklands, is still standing. Will it survive or will it have to be demolished? Last March, Hastings Borough Council rejected retrospective planning application HS/FA/14/01036. Now the matter is going to appeal, to be heard by a planning inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Bernard McGinley reports.

Council leader responds to planning concerns

HOT’s Zelly Restorick recently wrote about the planning procedure and the Hastings Development Management Plan – and how filing objections or comments seemed to be a very complicated process for the average person to tackle. As a number of HOT readers commented on the article, she decided to write to the Leader of the Council, Jeremy Birch, to offer him a chance to respond.
