Salome: a genuinely gripping work

Edifice Dance Theatre: Salome, St Mary in the Castle, Hastings, 29 June 2019. The brief biblical account of Salome has given rise to a wealth of artistic endeavours, the most recent of which comes from Edifice Dance Theatre in cooperation with Hastings Philharmonic. Composers come to Hastings to battle for competition prize

This Friday at St Mary in the Castle sees the climax of Marcio da Silva’s four-day Challenge of Change Festival with the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra performing Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, the brilliant Ayşen Ulucan on violin. The event also showcases the six finalist composers of the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Composition Competition, three of whom are present in Hastings for the occasion, writes Chris Cormack.

Beethoven and O’Meara help put Hastings Philharmonic firmly on the musical map

The newly reformed Hastings Phlharmonic, which now comprises an orchestra in addition to the well-known choir, had its first outing on Saturday 12 November at the White Rock Theatre. Hastings Philharmonic performs Beethoven’s choral symphony to announce its arrival

Beethoven’s Ninth is the work chosen to present to the world the newly formed Hastings Philharmonic – a permanent bonding of the well-known Hastings Philharmonic Choir with the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra, which has its base in the Ensemble OrQuesta. A third component, Hastings Philharmonic Chamber Choir, will enable this local musical powerhouse to further expand its repertoire and ambitions. David Pullen looks forward to the first performance.
