The usual domination by the top seeds proved not to be the order of the day at the Hastings International Chess Congress, as grandmasters found themselves facing a stiff challenge from lower-rated opponents. Turov heads field for chess tournament

Preparations are well under way for the 2017/18 Hastings International Chess Congress which will open on 28 December at Horntye Park. To date nine grandmasters and one woman grandmaster have signed up. Nick Terdre reports.

Indian victory at Hastings chess congress

Chess tourney another success for Hastings

There was Chinese victory in the Masters tournament of the Hastings International Chess Congress this week, but the congress, now waiting to see how its council grant holds up in the coming settlement, is itself a victory for the town. Nick Terdre reports.
