Nostalgic visit for Bernard

A trip to a 1930’s greenhouse brought back war-time memories for former gardener Bernard Mallion, writes Lynda Foy. The 91-year-old, who lives in Hollington, St Leonards, started work at Alexandra Park in Hastings when he was 16 in February 1941, and stayed there until 1943 when he joined the Royal Navy.

Secret walled garden

Visitors can discover the secrets of a hidden garden when the international Chelsea Fringe Festival comes to Hastings in May. Members of the Bohemia Walled Garden Association (BWGA) will celebrate the growing success of their community project on Sunday, 21 May, when they use their annual open day to host Fringe events. Vote for historic greenhouse restoration

Two blacksmiths are planning to forge a new future for an historic greenhouse as a community project. Tobias Cobrin and Ben Crosthwaite will restore and repair the cast iron frame of the structure at Alexandra Park, Hastings, but they need your vote to help do this. Lynda Foy of the Alexandra Park Greenhouse Group writes.
