28 bus meeting opens dialogue

The 28 bus campaign had a successful meeting with Stagecoach representatives, Dimitri Bridgeland and Ron Jarvis, local councillors, Tania Charman, Peter Chowney, Judy Rogers and Mike Turner and local bus users on the 19 July at Mendham Hall on the West Hill, Hastings. Although no solution was found to this troubled service, it was felt a dialogue was created enabling the campaign to move forward. Marylyn Edwards writes.

Council urged to start food waste recycling

Hastings Green Party has launched a Change petition calling for Hastings Borough Council to add food waste to their list of collectible and recyclable materials. Why? The move would cut down on the amount of waste material sent to landfill, reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with landfilled food waste, provide a useful source of compost and potentially – via anaerobic digestion – a source of energy, plus reduce mess on our streets caused by gulls tearing open rubbish bags containing food.
