Seeking host families for musicians, dancers and composers

The International Composers Festival has dancers, composers and musicians, travelling from abroad that would very much like to stay with a host family in East Sussex. This year we have many coming from all over the world, so are looking for additional accommodation. Founder and artistic director, Polo Piatti, writes.

Harmony at Christmas

It has been a great year for musician, Debbie Warren, culminating in a brilliant performance of Benjamin Britten and John Rutter Carols at Christmas and her appointment as Soundwaves Community Choir’s first resident Music Director. HOT’s Chris Cormack looks at Debbie’s achievements in 2015 and carol concerts this Christmas. If you’ve  missed the concerts in the last few weeks you can still get in the mood for Christmas this Saturday at St Mary in the Castle with the Hastings Philharmonic Choir.

Making the music his own

What separates a musician from the crowd? Is it not the way he makes the music his own? Which is why I knew I’d asked the wrong question, when I asked Daniel Rainey what was his favourite music to play? It is as if the music he is currently playing is always his favourite – more importantly it is his! HOT’s Chris Cormack writes on a musical phenomenon, who graced the Hastings International Composers Festival for all four concerts.

Hastings welcomes its own new orchestra

For those lovers of the International Composers Festival, who regret not having their usual opportunity of hearing recently composed classical tonal music here in Hastings, there is – this year at least – an exciting new development for romantic music, namely the first official concert of the Hastings Sinfonia. And the concert will include many much loved soloists from earlier Composers’ Festivals for us to enjoy, once again under the expert lead of conductor Derek Carden. HOT’s Chris Cormack writes.

Contemporary music to stir the emotions

The second International Composers’ Festival is fast approaching and renowned Japanese composer, Nobuya Monta, has been officially appointed the Festival’s new Composer in Residence. Maestro Monta will be composing a new orchestral work especially created for the Festival on the 6 & 7 September 2013. He will also travel from Osaka with a host of Japanese musicians to be with us at the Festival in Hastings!
