Best coffee places in St Leonard’s

After my post on Best Coffee Places in Hastings, I had many St Leonardsistas complaining that I had left their cafes out, despite me saying that I was only concentrating on Hastings Town Centre and the Old Town.  Well, now it is time to put that right, so off to St Leonard’s we go. Stephanie Gaunt, aka Hastings Battleaxe, continues her reviews.

Rude awakening

Last night two old friends came down from Birmingham and, on the suggestion of a neighbour, we went to see the Rude Mechanical Theatre Company in their open-air performance of ‘The Wife’, on Crowhurst Recreation Ground. Hastings Battleaxe, aka Stephanie Gaunt, recommends.

What are they squawking about?

It must be the birth of the new generation.  Stephanie Gaunt, aka Hastings Battleaxe reports. Many Hastingas don’t like seagulls. Oddly enough Battleaxe is quite fond of them, even though our life now has a constant background accompaniment of screaming, squawking, screeching and chattering.

A rare sunny day

What a difference a day makes…..Here’s the sea on Saturday – I don’t know about anyone else, but I find it very hard to get good pictures of waves. No sooner is the camera primed and ready than it shakes in the wind, spray blows in my eyes, then the waves subside and reappear further down the beach. Yesterday a stinging hail shower finally put paid to my efforts.  Hastings Battleaxe comes out in the sunshine – a long blog post for a long walk!

Brede ‘Giants’

On Saturday (earlier this month) a brief window of bright sunny weather opened in the morning, so we jumped through it and headed out to Brede – the restored steam engines at the old Waterworks only operate on the first Saturday of each month and on bank holidays. As the first Saturday of March is coming up, Hastings Battleaxe recommends a visit.
