Hastings’ Hiroshima Day gathering

Thursday 6 August 2015 is the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Nagasaki suffered the same fate three days later. The number of victims from these attacks on civilian populations are estimated at over 200,000. Hastings Against War will be organising their annual Hiroshima Day remembrance gathering and invite you to come along.

Drone Against The Drones

Hastings Against War has organised this peaceful protest against the use of military drones. Drone Against the Drones takes place at 6.30pm on Thursday 4 June. Want to attend? Meet at the pier for a public demonstration and then march to The Royal Standard in the Old Town for music and speeches.  This local public demonstration is part of an ongoing national campaign, leading to a week of action in October.

As the government marks the First World War centenary by celebrating nationalism and military values, a new study/action group in Hastings will be examining the power and complexity of non-violence, writes Zelly Restorick.

Peace poppies in the peace garden

A remembrance event for all the victims of wars will be held in the Peace Garden at Alexandra Park with readings, songs and the laying of a wreath of white poppies at the war memorial. As an alternative to the red poppy, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick, the white poppy represents a challenge to the systems that tell us that making war is an inevitable part of our lives.
