Divest fossil fuels battle continues

The chair of the East Sussex Pension Committee, Councillor Richard Stogdon, has said that he ‘entirely agrees’ that ‘any encouragement to the fracking industry’ – such as investments in ‘fracking companies’ – ‘should be avoided’, as these are ‘not in the best interest of the Council’s pensioners … [or] residents of East Sussex.’ Cllr Stogdon also stated that the Pension Committee would be ‘looking at strategies for reducing – as far as possible – any investment in coal where we see that’s in the best interests of our pensioners.’ [1] Information sent by Divest East Sussex.

Women Resist War

At the Quaker Meeting House on 2 May, there was an event themed around women who resisted the First World War, shining a light on those women who aren’t widely known yet, whose stories form part of the wider history of the war. John Enefer writes.

Court challenge to QGR over air pollution fails

Local activist Gabriel Carlyle this week sought to have the planning permission for Sea Change Sussex’s Queensway Gateway road overturned on air pollution grounds, but the High Court refused to accept his case. Nick Terdre reports.

Request for judicial review of road permission to be renewed after judge’s initial refusal

News that permission has been refused for a judicial review of Hastings Borough Council’s decision to give the go-ahead for the Queensway Gateway Road has been welcomed by the council and by Sea Change Sussex, the developer. But Gabriel Carlyle, who sought the review, says he will renew his application. Nick Terdre reports.
