Council scraps planning notification letters

As from the New Year Hastings Borough Council will stop sending letters to notify residents of planning applications in their area. The move, confirmed at this week’s Cabinet meeting, has drawn a lot of criticism. Nick Terdre reports.

Fishy masterclasses coming early next year

For many centuries fish and fishing were the very lifeblood of Hastings. The piscatorial pioneers who brought in those doughty denizens of the deep formed a firm foundation for the town’s economy that lives on today. So it’s great that, following on from a fabulous weekend at the Hastings Herring Fair, the team from Billingsgate Seafood School are returning to deliver some workshops to show us how to make the very best of the local catch in Hastings. Toby Sargent reports.

1066 Cycling Festival

The 1066 Cycling Festival is a brand new free two day festival celebrating everything cycling. The festival will run over the weekend 11 and 12 June in two venues, Hastings and Bexhill.

Tributes paid to Cllr John Hodges

Tributes have been paid to Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council member John Hodges who died last week at the age of 70.

Hastings Herring Fair takes to the Stade this weekend, when the local fishing fleet will be celebrating 10 years since they were awarded MSC – Marine Stewardship Council – status for their sustainable methods of herring fishing. Wanted: your views on pier promenade plans

With the reopening of the pier next year in mind, Hastings Borough Council is planning to remodel the promenade at White Rock and wants to hear your views on its proposals. These will be on display in the seafront meeting room of the White Rock Hotel on Thursday 11 June from 3pm to 7pm when you can let the council know what you think.

Chowney elected new council leader

At the annual council meeting on Friday, Councillor Peter Chowney was elected leader of the council in place of the late Jeremy Birch. Lead member posts were also allocated, Nick Terdre reports.
