Could the Hastings Democratic Alliance be revived?

In 2005 the Hastings Democratic Alliance (HDA) was formed, aiming to promote participation and involvement in the democratic process, and to maintain a watching brief on the activities of public and private bodies. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver interviews former local councillor, Sue Palmer, and artist and activist, Colin Booth, both founder members of the HDA. They discuss the background of HDA, the achievements of the alliance and the prospect of its revival.

Hastings Harbour Proposal to be withdrawn

On Friday 21 September, the Green Party announced that the withdrawal of the Harbour Proposal by the Hastings Harbour Quarter Company will be discussed by Hastings Borough Council at the Cabinet Meeting at 6pm on Monday October 1st at Muriel Matters House. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver examines the details of the Council’s decision.

Sad passing of John the Cobbler

On 4 April John Napier, known as John the Cobbler, died after a long fight against cancer. His shop at 64D High Street was known as the hub of the Old Town, to people and dogs alike.

Hastings Harbour: Promises, Empty Promises: Fishermen Protest against Tory Policy.

HOT’s Chandra Masoliver reports on the recent Fishermen’s Protest against Tory policy. She interviews three local fishermen, Paul Joy, Chairman of Hastings Fishermen’s Protection Society (HFPS) and Co-Chairman of the New Under Ten’s Association (NUTFA), which protects the rights of under ten metre fishing boats; Paul Stanley, fisherman and boy ashore; and Roland Kelly, owner of RX52, RX53, RX54 and DR169. She also reports on her attempt to interview Amber Rudd on the Harbour Proposal.
