Mini Wood Fest at Victorian walled garden

This free mini festival, as with everything the Bohemia Walled Garden does, is designed to promote our connection with the natural world and all of its bounty. All welcome to come along and enjoy, learn and experience a woodland walk, making nutcrackers, a wood art display, willow basket making, hurdle making, wood games and activities, pruning and hot drinks.

Alexandra Park hosts Mini Chelsea Fringe

A new gardening festival makes its debut in Hastings this weekend when the Mini Chelsea Fringe – the alternative garden festival – is held in Alexandra Park on Sunday. Also part of the event is a talk on parks on Friday evening. Nick Terdre reports, photos by Colin Foy.

Secret walled garden

Visitors can discover the secrets of a hidden garden when the international Chelsea Fringe Festival comes to Hastings in May. Members of the Bohemia Walled Garden Association (BWGA) will celebrate the growing success of their community project on Sunday, 21 May, when they use their annual open day to host Fringe events. Lynda Foy reports.

Behind the walls of the garden

Last time I visited the walled garden, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick, sunflowers were blooming and produce was being harvested. This time, as I passed through the brick doorway, I spied crocuses, rosemary, buds and embryonic bloomings, children playing and adults leisurely preparing the ground for the new season of growth. I’d come to speak to new chairperson, Mary Dawson, to update me on the latest news.
