Walking and cycling funding cut draws protest

Hastings Greenway Group (HGG) has delivered a strong protest against East Sussex County Council’s decision to halve the budget for a package of walking and cycling routes in order to provide more money for road building, the latest in a series of walking and cycling commitments which have failed to materialise. Meanwhile the group has arranged a walk along the Ore Valley stretch of the proposed greenway route. Nick Terdre reports.

Transport poverty in Hastings can be changed

Road planning in our town denies access to many residents. Those who do not have a car and rely on pedestrian routes, buses or bike routes are definitely getting a poor deal in Hastings. Kids’ Klimt workshop in the park

Greenway walking season kicks off!

Hastings Greenway Group is summoning supporters to join in this year’s first walk for the greenway. They welcome the fact that the project enjoys support from most of the parties in the upcoming local elections, but have found it hard to clarify whether they qualify for a grant from a walking and cycling fund which could help bring the dream closer to reality. Hastings parks best in the UK. Official!

Hastings Borough Council has won two very special awards for innovation in parks management. The projects that secured the awards were for bathing water quality improvement in Alexandra Park and the introduction of Belted Galloway cattle, conservation grazing and heathland restoration at Hastings Country Park.

Hiroshima Day 2017

Hastings Against War will commemorate those who lost their lives in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 with a ceremony at the boating lake in Alexandra Park on Sunday 6 August. An estimated 185,000 people perished when US airforce planes bombed the cities, dying as a result of the initial blast, due to fires sparked by the bombs, and as a result of radiation-sickness caused by the explosions.
