It is hard setting up a new project in Hastings because there is always so much going on; and a brand new photographic festival could have been labelled madness. There are a lot of good photographers in the area but photographers are notoriously lone wolves and do not like to be herded together. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to talk to the Through the Lens Festival team, Jo Kilmartin and Kim Hall, to find out more.
This Saturday, 25 November sees the streets of Central St Leonards come to life for the Towns Fifth annual frost fair and Parade, now a firm favourite in the towns event calendar, the day’s activities will culminate in the switching on of the towns fabulous Christmas light display that was won in a prestigious competition in 2015.
Hastings Borough Council is inviting applications from experienced arts or community organisations or individuals to programme, market, manage and deliver the St Leonards Festival in 2018. Michael Hambridge
Black Friday, yet another clarion call to spend, spend, spend from Big Commerce, is not to every retailer’s taste. St Leonard’s Central proprietor Clive Gross has become so incensed by the damaging effect of the hype around Black Friday that today he is running a special ‘No Discount Day’ at the shop instead. At the Way Forward meeting last night, Mandy Curtis from 18 hours told local residents about this year’s extended St Leonards Festival and why she wanted to add a ticketed opera garden party to the existing one-day, free community Saturday. HOT’s Erica Smith wanted to find out more and caught up with Mandy whilst she and her team of organisers set the finishing touches to the schedules.
