Affordable housing on Station Plaza scrapped

An application for removal of the affordable housing obligation in the Station Plaza development was approved with reluctance by the planning committee last week. The decision raises fears for the future of such housing in Hastings. Nick Terdre reports.

Give someone you love a little bit of Hastings this Christmas

Are you stumped by Christmas? No idea what to give anyone? Fed up with over-consumption and angry about the crazy cost of accommodation (Hastings’ propery prices rose by 12% in 2016)? Then think about giving a little bit of heart this Christmas by buying your loved one a share in the Heart of Hastings Community Land Trust. HOT’s Erica Smith is proud to be an early adopting shareholder.

Changes to Park Beck application cause concern

Regal Care Homes and its developer, Penson have amended their proposal for an ’extra care home’ at 21 Upper Maze Hill, suggesting that this makes it more acceptable to local residents who objected to the original proposal. However, the planning department does not intend to test this claim by reconsulting. This is one of a number of concerns which have arisen over the handling of the amended proposal. Nick Terdre reports.

Two ways to warm up Ore Valley this Saturday

An application of low standards

Local residents interested in commenting on planning applications which affect them will have become aware as they make their way through the developer’s documents of various common shortcomings – the poor quality of the English, sometimes to the point of incomprehensibility, inaccuracies, inconsistencies and misrepresentations in the project descriptions, and in some cases the absence of important details. Bernard McGinley turns a critical spotlight on the proposed project at 21 Upper Maze Hill in St Leonards and finds plenty to alarm him.
