What would we do without them?

Here is a startling revelation about an army of volunteers. According to the NCVO, an estimated 12.7 million people volunteer in England once a month and in talking to three of them, it dawned on me that volunteering is… work. Often it’s hard and sometimes thankless work. I also found that the reward for such free labour is not just the warm glow you get from helping other people, though that is certainly part of it. 125 not out

Hastings Museum and Art Gallery’s 125th birthday celebrations were a great success on Wednesday 16 August. It marked 125 years to the day that Hastings’ first public museum opened, on 16 August 1892, with a re-creation of the original opening ceremony at 3.30pm, the exact time the museum was first opened.

Garden of Cultural Delights

In this our 8th year of Cultural Delight we were pleased to be joined by Hastings Mayor Cllr. Judy Rogers for the Mayor’s Community Picnic and to take the opportunity to reflect on how essential it is to develop understanding and friendship beyond religious and cultural difference in order to secure a community where bonds of respect and love free us from prejudice and hatred. Hastings Green Flag Award

Hastings is flying the flag with some of the UK’s very best green spaces. HBC’s Barbara Browning writes. Hastings ‘Alexandra Park, St Leonards Gardens and the Country Park have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as three of the very best green spaces in the world.

28 bus meeting opens dialogue

The 28 bus campaign had a successful meeting with Stagecoach representatives, Dimitri Bridgeland and Ron Jarvis, local councillors, Tania Charman, Peter Chowney, Judy Rogers and Mike Turner and local bus users on the 19 July at Mendham Hall on the West Hill, Hastings. Although no solution was found to this troubled service, it was felt a dialogue was created enabling the campaign to move forward. Marylyn Edwards writes.

The Swift Project celebrates
